In the 'TOPIC' query box, enter the keyword(s) of the title or subject.
To search plurals and other word endings, use an asterisk (*) attached to the stem e.g. cemet*.
To find a phrase surround the words with quotes e.g. "New South Wales" or "Log of Logs".
Click or tab to move to the other boxes if more parameters are required to narrow the search.
The 'AUTHOR' box searches for authors, editors, etc. Use * as above e.g. F* Smith.
Use the name of the country/state for corporate authors such as government depts e.g. "United Kingdom" or Victoria. This is useful for limiting results to 'official' records.
The CALL NUMBER may be used to limit the format of the search such as microfiche, microfilm, computer, Internet, map, podcast, article or the classification number e.g. 929.2* for family histories. Clicking the left hand tab to NOT will exclude that type of item.
ANY WORD(s) may be searched in the box below. However it may retrieve too many entries.
Boolean searches may be used within the boxes using OR (in capitals). To exclude a word, use a space minus e.g. Victoria -Canada excludes the town of Victoria in Canada.
The left hand Boolean query buttons may also be clicked to switch between AND, OR, NOT.
Proximity and range searches are also available.
